Deputy Sheriff Civil Service Testing
The Harrison County Civil Service Commission is now accepting applications for Deputy Sheriff. Testing consists of a physical agility assessment followed by a written examination.
Testing Date: Saturday, September 19, 2026 — 9:00 a.m.
Location: Robert C. Byrd High School (RCB) — report to the track 30 minutes early with valid photo ID
Application Deadline: Wednesday, September 16, 2026 — email to hburnside@harrisoncountywv.gov or submit in person at check-in
Applicants arriving late will not be permitted to test.
Eligibility Requirements
Physical Agility Testing
Only applicants who pass the physical agility test are permitted to take the written examination. Active WV-certified officers are only required to take the written examination.
Written Examination
Applicants who successfully complete the physical agility test are invited to take the written exam immediately following.
The written examination administered is the National Criminal Justice Officer Selection Inventory — NCJOSI². Study materials may be purchased at iosolutions.com.

Access non-exempt public records held by the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office under W. Va. Code §29B-1-1 et seq.
Under the West Virginia Freedom of Information Act (W. Va. Code §29B-1-1 et seq.), members of the public may request access to non-exempt public records held by the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office. Agencies are required to respond to FOIA requests within five business days of receipt.
To submit a request, complete the Sheriff’s Office FOIA Request Form and email it to SheriffFOIA@harrisoncountywv.gov, or send a written request including your name, contact information, and a clear description of the records you are seeking.
